  • Magnesium

Magnesium supports 300 enzymatic reactions in the body and regulates numerous biological activities across many organ systems. Reduced magnesium levels are linked to reproductive diseases such as poly-cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Research indicated that magnesium supplementation may have a positive impact on insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular health, acute migraines, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

  • Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is an essential nutrient involved in several biological processes including the nervous system, cellular metabolism, and the immune system. Vitamin B6 also influences the endocrine system and the development of reproductive hormones. While some oral contraceptives are reported to negatively impact vitamin B6 levels, vitamin B6 supplementation is demonstrated to improve premenstrual syndrome (PMS) for some women.

    PMID: 21967158

  • Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is involved in energy metabolism and neurological protection. Deficiency of vitamin B12 is commonly seen in reproductive disorders and hormonal dysregulation. Supplementation with B complex vitamins and folate is documented to improve cardiovascular health in women with PCOS. In addition, research studies report a positive impact of Vitamin B12 supplementation on depression.

PMID: 34970669 (VB12 supplementation and PCOS)

  • Zinc

Zinc plays a crucial role in the immune response as well as the reproductive system and hormone regulation. Researchers document that zinc can improve insulin resistance and lipid balance in women with PCOS. In dysmenorrhea (pain during the menstrual cycle) researchers also determined that zinc supplementation can improve PMS symptoms.

    PMID: 32824334

  • Folate

Folate/folic acid (vitamin B9) is involved in key metabolic reactions supporting antioxidant defense and neuroprotection. PCOS, reduced ovarian health, and infertility are linked to decreased folate levels. Supplementation with B complex vitamins and folate is reported to improve cardiovascular effects in women with PCOS. In addition, researchers noted a beneficial effect of folate on inflammation, oxidative stress, and blood sugar in women with PCOS.

PMID: 17878022, 19443458 (PCOS and folate)

  • Vitamin C

Vitamin C has an important role in the adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla, glads that help regulate our hormone (endocrine) system. Deficiencies in magnesium, zinc, B complex vitamins, and vitamin C can negatively impact the HPA axis- a biological pathway critical in our stress response and hormone regulation.

PMID: 15666839 (vitamin C and the adrenal glad)

  • Vitamin B3

Vitamin B3 (niacin) is utilized in numerous cellular activities that are necessary for development and survival. Niacin can also support anti-inflammatory pathways and neuroprotection.

    PMID: 33158037 (niacin)

  • Dairy-free probiotics

A healthy gut is crucial for hormonal balance. Probiotics contribute to a balanced microbiome, which can positively impact hormone levels.
